Newport Aquarium

The Newport aquarium in Cincinnati is a constant attraction for tourists and aquatic enthusiasts. Across the Ohio River from downtown Cincinnati, this surprisingly great aquarium is adjacent to Newport on the Levee is a well-designed facility that is stimulating for all ages; walk-through displays include an excellent jellyfish exhibit, and a neat hands-on area where children can touch turtles, starfish, etc. and an entrancing shark tunnel; a few visitors do not enjoy the no stroller-policy on crowded days, but luckily, backpacks are provided to tote small children.

I always suggest visitors to Cincinnati visit the Newport aquarium. The spectacular Newport aquarium offers full immersion in a Waterworld with glass tunnels that blur the separation between visitors and toothy sharks. Stingrays, sea turtles, and penguins frolic, and the stunning jellyfish Gallery -- featuring blue lead aquariums in a chandeliered room with classical music -- resembles a living artwork.

The Newport aquarium is located at Newport on the Levee -- 1-800-406-3474; www.newportaquarium.com. Open Summer daily 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; winter hours vary. $16, seniors $14, children 3-12 $10.
